Who we are

Tinne Van der Straeten (Malle, 1978) studied African Languages and Cultures at the University of Ghent (2000). In 2008 she obtained her master degree in law (University of Brussels). She became a member of the Brussels Bar in October 2010.

Tinne started her professional career as a research assistant at the University of Louvain (UCL) and the University of Leuven (K.U.Leuven). Thereafter she worked for the Flemish green party, Groen! Ze was vice-president from November 2005 until June 2007. Tinne Van der Straeten was a member of parliament (federal Chamber of Representatives) from June 2007 until June 2010 and was appointed Secretary of the Chamber of Representatives. She is a local municipal counsel in Koekelberg (Brussels Region).

In the Chamber, she was a member of the Economical Commission, the Subcommission Nuclear Safety and the Special Commission Climate Change. She focused on all aspects of the federal policies on energy and climate change. The main Belgian quality newspapers applauded her parliamentary work.

De Morgen granted her 4 out of 5 stars and wrote “became the climate and energy specialist of the Parliament. Is regarded as the reference within all political parties.” De Standaard gave her 8/10 points; as the “demon of minister of energy Magnette” she “devoured energy files” whereby “she dug sometimes so deep that the problems she discovered where unexplainable to laymen“, but whereby she also “expertly fought the nuclear deal between the government and Suez”.

Tim Vermeir (Ukkel, 1973) studied law at the University of Brussels (bilingual candidature, K.U.Brussel and FUSL) and at the University of Leuven (1996). He also obtained an LL.M. at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (Germany).

After his studies, he did a four months internship at the legal department of London Electricity PLC, being able to follow up closely the last preparations of the liberalization of the UK retail market for electricity and natural gas. He became a member of the Brussels Bar in January 1998 and worked for some of the larger firms (CMS De Backer, Altius, Loyens & Loeff). Before setting up Blixt, he was a partner at Publius.

Tim Vermeir is also a junior affiliated researcher at the Institute for Environmental and Energy Law of the University of Leuven, teaching in several courses, and is a member of the editorial board of the law journal Milieu- en Energierecht. Hij has written many scientific articles on climate and energy law.

Tim is a former president of the Brussels Young Bar Association, Vlaams Pleitgenootschap bij de Balie te Brussel, and president of the environmental council of Tervuren.
